Challenge
In Senegal, many rural farms are facing a gradual decline in soil fertility. Land exhaustion, the intensive use of chemical inputs and increasingly frequent climate shocks are weakening agricultural systems over the long term.
This situation leads to falling yields, rising production costs and growing dependence on external resources, threatening both food security and farmers’ incomes. Low in organic matter and essential minerals, soils become less resilient to droughts and irregular rainfall, limiting crop diversity and quality.
Innovative solution
Paysan du Cayor is rethinking Senegal’s farming model by turning productivity, sustainability and employment challenges into concrete opportunities.
The company relies on a circular and integrated approach that connects crop production, livestock farming and beekeeping within a virtuous ecosystem where every resource is put to use.
Agricultural residues are recycled into natural fertilisers, poultry contribute to soil regeneration, and bees enhance pollination—boosting both yields and biodiversity. The integration of solar energy, and eventually biogas, will enable full energy self‑sufficiency, strengthening resilience to climate and economic shocks.
